According to Fella, Algeria lacks agencies and organizations that provide home care assistance for children with disabilities and for the elderly. In order to meet the needs of their families, Algerians are often forced to quit their jobs in order to stay home and care for children with disabilities or aging parents. Additionally, persons with disabilities often face discrimination, are chronically unemployed and cannot afford to purchase medical equipment they need. Fella hopes to provide more support resources to families who require home care assistance by creating an online platform to connect home care professionals with families in need of their services.
Five-Year Project Goals:
- Scale up the organization and expand throughout Algeria while maintaining core philosophies
- Build public trust in different regions so that Firahtek becomes synonymous with professional home care services
Organization Information: Firahtek
Firahtek aims to address two tightly linked social issues affecting Algeria: access to quality home care assistance and access to affordable medical equipment. Through its online platform, Firahtek connects home care professionals to Algerians in need of assistance. The organization recruits, screens, trains, and supervises their home care professionals before placing them in someone's home, and this level of responsibility makes Firahtek the first organization of its kind. The online platform uses a user rating system to ensure that clients are comfortable and happy with the services they are receiving. Firahtek also works to provide medical supplies to persons with disabilities and elderly people who cannot afford to purchase them.
