Requirements

These guidelines are meant for international students participating in International Student Mobility Initiative (ISMI) programs, such as the 3+ and 1+ Excellence Programs, for which there is an executed agreement between UConn and the home institution. These requirements are non-negotiable.

Students interested in applying to this program should contact the international office or designated program coordinator at their home university for the application password. Students should follow the instructions carefully. The final admissions decision rests with the hosting department (in the case of undergraduate non-degree study) or with the Graduate School (in the case of graduate study). Specific department requirements can be found here. These requirements may include minimum GPA, skype interview with candidates, specific course prerequisites, etc.

The Office of Global Affairs-International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and Center for International Students & Scholars (CISS) at UConn, working with the participating UConn School/College, will issue the immigration documents required for students to apply for a visa classification that ISSS determines most appropriate. Students must meet UConn’s requirements for visa sponsorship and comply with U.S. immigration regulations to obtain and maintain their status while at UConn. Students will be responsible for obtaining and paying for the costs related to passports and/or U.S. visa.

The minimum cumulative GPA requirement is 2.5. Individual departments at UConn may require a higher GPA for their majors.

All international students must demonstrate that they meet both the standard and degree-specific English language proficiency requirements of UConn before admission to non-degree study, a degree program or enrollment in UConn classes.

The minimum score requirement for the TOEFL is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based) for UConn. The minimum score requirement for the IELTS exam is 6.5. Individual departments at UConn may require a higher score. Official scores must be sent to UConn by the testing agency. TOEFL Instructions: Request the ETS testing agency to send your TOEFL scores directly to UConn, using school code 3915.

IELTS Instructions: Request the testing agency (where you took the test) to send official IELTS scores to the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT.

During their study at UConn, international non-degree students are required to enroll in a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 15 credits each semester. Students will receive a notice of completion upon the fulfillment of program requirements for the one year of undergraduate non-degree study at UConn. If students have not been granted admission to a graduate program to commence the following fall, they must return to their home country after the one year of study has been completed.
Students will be required to carry UConn Student Health Insurance for the duration of their stay. Students will be automatically enrolled, and will find it as a line item on their tuition and fee bill.
Undergraduate non-degree students admitted to programs on the Storrs Campus will be required to stay in student housing and purchase a meal plan for the duration of their stay. This will be included in the tuition and fee bill. Students admitted to programs on the Stamford Campus (Business Data Analytics, Digital Marketing & Analytics, and Financial Management) will be provided with information for off-campus housing and will be responsible for securing housing and payment directly to landlords.
Application
This Application cannot be saved. Please have all your information on hand before beginning to fill out the application, as it must be completed in one sitting and submitted. You will receive a confirmation when the form has been submitted successfully. The application will ask you for three academic references. You will need their name, title (academic affiliation) and email address before beginning the application.

The Global Training & Development Institute facilitates international student mobility through the coordination of non-degree programs for international students from select participating institutions around the world.

Students interested in participating must be nominated by their home institution. Participating institutions are listed under International Non-Degree Student Mobility Programs. In addition to fulfilling the general university-wide requirements, international non-degree students must fulfill department/program specific requirements. The final admissions decision rests with the hosting UConn department (in the case of undergraduate non-degree study) or with the UConn Graduate School (in the case of graduate study).
