Joelyca believes that the effects of climate change can be slowed by educating and encouraging people in the Tacloban City area to buy environmentally friendly products and make more environmental choices in their daily lives. She plans and organizes round table discussions and workshops for students aimed at increasing environmental awareness in the community. Joelyca also collaborated with partners to organize mangrove tree planting events to introduce people to her organization, promote environmental sustainability, and to provide educational opportunities for all members of the community.

Five-Year Project Goals:

  • Produce an environmentally friendly product line
  • Provide environmental solutions by changing the buying patterns of consumers into green habits

Organization Information: Green Motives

Green Motives identified the need for environmental solutions because of the apparent effects of climate change. The effects of climate change can be seen through the Filipino people's experience of super typhoons, flooding, heat waves and other natural disasters. Green Motives aims to address these problems by influencing people to become more environmentally aware in terms of their buying patterns. Green Motives works to create more environmentally knowledgeable citizens through community education, startup motivation and product creation.

Green Motives' first phase is the community education aspect of the enterprise. Environmental Education is being done through round table discussions on environmental awareness in different student organizations of Tacloban City, Philippines. There has been a series of mangrove tree plantings organized by Green Motives in order to spread its mission of environmental sustainability.

Funding helped in financing different activities of the enterprise, but was especially useful in implementing its community education phase. Before any Green Motives program or activity implementation, there is a day or two specifically devised for production work, skill orientation and briefing. Funding was necessary to cover transportation costs, food, arrangements and other related concerns of the different activities implemented.
